This lovely lady is Shasta and she is a spayed, 2-3 year-old Collie mix. Shasta befriended our trainer, Lisa, while she was giving lessons at a park in Bakersfield. Lisa couldn’t just leave her behind so she brought her to a vet and had her scanned to look for a microchip. Turns out she has a microchip and we figured that we’d have a happy reunion—surely nobody could give up on this dog, she’s too perfect. Well, as often happens, we were let down. We haven’t heard back from the number we called but that is THEIR LOSS AND OUR GAIN!! She has such a delightful spirit and infuses a playful happy-go-lucky spirit into the crew up here at the rescue. Baloo, our very scared, traumatized Mastiff has made great progress, in part due to Shasta’s easy going vibe. Shasta is PERFECT on and off leash, rides superbly in a vehicle and is very mindful. She’s incredibly smart—-what she doesn’t know she could learn in a day! We had her groomed at the Pet Lodge to get the Bakersfield dust off of her and the staff there completely fell in love. She possesses all of the qualities that make humans so endeared to dogs—-loyalty, unconditional love, skill, adoration.

Shasta must be with dogs her own size or bigger or with no dog at all

If you are interested in adopting Shasta, please email and include Shasta’s Name in the subject line
