Update 1-2-13

Soldier Update: I just received an email from our “Soldier(the dog) Support Force” in Afghanistan requesting an update about our boy. Soldier is steadily improving; he still has some itchiness and coat issues, but he’s gained weight and his mange is improving. He is your typical German Shepherd: very smart, protective and happy. We will probably arrange for his surgery towards the end of the month, once his mange is under control. You may remember that his pelvis is broken (not causing pain) and that the strategy is to shave off the ball of his femur to better navigate the socket. In case I haven’t reiterated this point enough- FOSTER PARENTS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD

Solider was found in an orchard near Arvin, CA. He has a badly damaged back leg. The injury appears to be from impact with a car. A passerby saw him and has been trying to help him for the last week. Even with all the pain of his damaged leg he tries to love and play with his care givers. He is coming to the rescue and is going to be evaluated. Based on the photos we are figuring that he will need surgery and fluids and lots of food to get back up to a healthy condition. Please share this story and help make the difference in his life.
