Chicago Marathon Fundraising

We ARE running the Chicago Marathon in less than 3 weeks! Here is a clip about “WHY I RUN”. We are raising funds for our Miracle Mutt program ( and celebrating my 5th sober birthday!!!! 5 years sober…. I literally couldn’t string together 5 hours sober and to think that I’m coming up on 5 years is astonishing- feels like we are talking about someone else.

My liver and kidney disease has leveled off, I’m mentally stable (ok, maybe stable isn’t the term), and I have a legion of friends and family that love and support me and, for once, I’m able to reciprocate. Life is still life, and I’m still learning to live it on life’s terms but I DO accept that fact and I accept that I am NOT in charge, at least no over most things. Alcohol, drugs and my disease dictated the terms for so long that it was very hard for me to learn to accept life as it comes at me and to cope with all of the ups, downs, ins and outs that I had no control over. I have an idea of what acceptance is today and I am very grateful for that. Progress, not perfection is the mantra for today!
