From one of our great foster homes….

Ok mutt militia….introducing Tex. He is name Tex because he has a Texas attitude when it comes to defending his family. Tex was found defending what we can only assume is his sister who was dumped in a garbage container. Luckily a good Samaritan took them in and contacted Marley‚Äôs Mutts. I picked him up tonight and he finally showed his fear as I drove home with him shaking on my lap. When we arrived home he was very fearful of my large boxers..snapping and growling at them when they sniffed him in my arms. I decided the rehab needed to start immediately.

I fed them all at the same time. Placing his bowl at the outer edge of where the others were. He started eating but would back away. I did not allow this. I picked him up and repeatedly set him in front of his bowl until he started eating. I then placed the bowl in the middle of two huge boxers and made sure he ate his dinner. He would try to disconnect and run away but after several attempts he ate all of his dinner right in the middle of the huge gentle dogs. Then I decided it was time to go outside for a bathroom break with the other dogs. After relieving himself he proceeded to do what dogs do. He started the butt sniffing introductions. I saw his mood relax and brought them back inside and he started to get along famously with his foster brother and sister.

He is now a happy pack member learning the house rules and following my old boxer boomer around to learn how to behave. Boomer is an all star at this and has proven his worth with several fosters in showing them “the way”. Its amazing how quickly dogs can relearn behavior with the proper guidance from both human and pack members. Tex is a total dude‚Äôs dog and I might have forever home for him with my own Dad. They will meet tomorrow. We need to check him for a microchip and get him neutered…but this is a smart sweet dog. Power to the mutt militia once again!!!
