Meet my foster dog Roxie. I picked her up from the Fruitvale Shelter a week ago. Roxie is a 1-2 year old Australian Shepard, Lab mix. She behaves like a retriever in that she really gets excited to bird watch and enjoys chasing the ball. Roxie was very quiet and labeled as scared when we first picked her up. When I got her home I first showed her the backyard and she started running all over with the biggest smile on her face. She wouldn’t get too far from me but clearly her personality was about to blossom. I introduced her to my pack of 3 dogs and they all played well. Then she met my teenage son and younger daughter and smothered them in kisses. We gave her a bath that evening and she was excellent. After a week with Roxie I have learned she is a very family oriented and obedient dog. She loves to go on her morning walk/run. She doesn’t bark at the people, dogs, or gardeners. She enjoys driving in the car when the kids go to school. She knows how to sit, lay down and shake. She will also sit at the front door waiting obediently before you open it to go for a walk.

We live on a large property and my pack of dogs will follow us out into the front yard when we get the mail, etc and she has learned the command to come back inside and has never taken off. She definitely is best suited in a family that has other dogs because she still likes to play. I have taken her to PetSmart and she did great. Other dogs were there barking and she just watched. I have had service men in our house this week and my children’s friends and she just wags her tail and never shows any sign of being scared or aggressive. She is also potty trained. Roxie is very friendly, always happy and loves to play. I just can’t think of anything negative to say. Oh other than she does shed. So baths and frequent brushing will be helpful.

If you’re interested in adopting Roxie, please fill out her adoption application below
