This regal beast is Hera and I fall more in love with her every day that she is here (so she needs to get adopted quickly). Hera was found stray near the base of Tehachapi Mountain. We guess Hera to be a 5 year-old Malamute/Anatolian mix due to her sheer structure and girth (not fat at all, just big). Her name was originally Olga, because she is huge (110 lbs), but we have changed it to Queen Hera due to her goddess-like persona and imperial beauty. Hera is the Queen because she carries herself like one and all of the boys up here are in love with her. I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit hesitant to introduce her to the crew because we have several large, young males that like to horse around and have a good time. If we had a fight, it would not be pretty and, let’s be honest, Hera doesn’t look like she can’t whoop some butt!! My reservations proved to be WAY off and our Queen assimilated into her constituency without any trouble. Hera may look like something out of “Where the Wild Things Are” but she is a saint—an absolute angel. She sleeps inside, next to Tug (who hates most dogs), and is the perfect house guest. I could sing her praises all day.

Hi Zach,
Here is an update on Little Girl Kelsey. She loves her new home and guarding her acre of land. She is quite the little guard dog. [Editor: Looks like she is quite the little Fashionista, too.] She had her first trip to PetSmart with her buddies Boo (Great Pyrenees) and Joey (Boston Terrier) and loves to ride in the car.
You know that stray little tramp? Well, she turned out to be quite the little Fox.
All our best to you and Marley’s Mutts.

Foo Man is doing great and has a new name now. His new name is “Arlo.” It took us a day and half to come up with one, but he is responding well to it.
He has explored every part of the house and the yard. Has a new toy and had a much needed bath and did NOT like that at all. I still have my arm however. But he will get use to that. He slept the full night last night (the first night he was up twice). Rick and I are both enjoying him and have a great time with him, however feisty he is for sure.
I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate what you are doing with these pets. I enjoyed meeting you. It was a great honor. And thank you for what you do.
Kind regards,
Malia

What can I say about Casey?….He’s pretty much your typical, all-American Golden Retriever—in other words, he’s perfect! Casey is a 2-year-old, neutered Golden who was pound-bound but luckily ended up here at Marley’s Mutts. Since arriving, he has provided a zest that is contagious and an even keel that the other dogs seem eager to mimic. He learned all of the rules right off the bat and keeps some of our newer, less stable dogs in line and occupied. Casey, Dewey and Roxanne have forged a hilarious bond that manifests itself in a near perpetual playtime, followed of course by lengthy naps and a very predictable sleep schedule. Casey would be best for a family, considering his compatibility with kids, but his adoption is not limited to this. He smiles all day long and loves the friendships with other dogs that he has developed up here. In case you haven’t already noticed, I am thoroughly in love with this dog and am excited to see him go to the right home where he can best be of service.

I wanted to give you an update on Chloe. First off, she is doing well. She has gotten all her puppy shots and has really started to grow. She has become the best of friends with our other dog, Dixie. We have enrolled them in dog training classes that will be starting in two weeks so we are excited to see how well they learn.
The Newmans
Well, I have to say my new life has started out with a bang…I was adopted into this new family that already had two doggies, in addition to two very playful boys (with lots of friends who come over all the time to meet me) AND an extended family with numerous dogs who come and visit with me as well!!!! Now don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining about my new life at all. And don’t worry either because my “mom” worries about me a lot (cause of my special condition, you know) so she picks me up and carries me all the time!!!
So, with all this excitement I have slept through the night every night since I have arrived and I take awesome naps, too. The food here is great–I get that organic stuff–and I eat three times a day and I am growing and putting on some weight. My only worry is that I don’t see as well as I think I should, you know, with my eyes being too far apart and all but, amazingly, I am not bumping into things like when I first arrived. My visit to the doctor went well. They are going to watch me closely to make sure there aren’t any changes to my condition. That is the best we can hope for. My new family is really doing a great job of loving me, playing gently with me and taking care of me so nicely. They call me Olivia or “Ollie” for short and I answer to it every time. I come when they call me and I am starting to learn how to sit and most importantly, go “potty” outside like they want me to.
Ok that is the good news. Now on to some not so good news: I have to report that last night, I think I had a seizure. I’m not sure, but I threw up several times, then I kind of passed out in my mom’s arms. My breathing got really shallow and I was “out of it” after I woke up. I had a fitfull night tossing and turning but I woke up TOTALLY like my old, playful self, full of piss and vinegar (as the old saying goes, although I don’t really know what that means and no one will tell me what it means). I was REALLY hungry as well, even though I am always hungry and I “wolf” my food down. Not sure what I can do about that because my mom tries to slow me down but it’s not working. Anyway, that is my latest update. I have attached several cute pictures of myself.
I will write again real soon. Take care and thank you, Zach, for saving me and finding me a really nice home and a family who loves me a ton!!
Love,

This unbelievably gorgeous gal is Cheyenne and she is my new favorite. Knuckles (one of our recent labs) passed the torch to her. I absolutely love everything about this dog: first off, SHE LOVES ME! I mean, we just met but she can’t get enough of me. I’m sure it will be like this with her new adopters. Secondly, she obeys every rule—all of them. She doesn’t jump the fence (but could if she wanted), she stays by my side with no leash, her energy emanates positivity, she is house trained and she doesn’t bark or fuss one bit. These are the qualities of a seasoned, trained canine but she is less than a year old and came from the Bakersfield Animal Shelter!! Her pictures show an expression of pugnacity but I can assure you that she is the opposite. All of our male dogs took one look at her and decided to have a libido-driven free for all, and what did she do? She turned the assault into a game of “tag” and simply out played them! Cheyenne would make a great family dog. To be honest she would make a great dog, period. I can’t imagine a situation that she couldn’t adapt to, even cats.
If you are interested in adopting Cheyenne, please contact Zach at 661-972-3852, 821-1327.
