Hi Zach -
Judy (now Shelbee) is adjusting very well. She has definitely made herself at home. She and Tanner are quickly becoming best buds. She was a little bit timid of him at first, but now she is getting more playful each day. She loves to go to the park down the street and goes full out playing fetch. Her eating has improved and she is now eating only dry food without any problems. She’s a total sweetheart and is definitely getting spoiled with lots of treats, belly rubs and love.
Thank you for the opportunity to give her a loving home. She has made a wonderful addition to our family.
Thank you,
Coree and Jeff
(Tanner and Shelbee too!!!)

This tri-colored sweetheart is Daisy-girl and she is a 1-½ year-old border collie/Australian shepherd mix. For Daisy and me, it was love at first sight. Since the day she arrived, she has been attached to my hip, which includes sleeping in my bed and making the rounds in town. She does everything well: rides well, listens well, performs off-leash very well and doesn’t hog the covers or move much in her sleep. She has a docked tail and is the size of a border collie but doesn’t try to herd or nip. She is extremely well-behaved and even when she gets excited, she’s easy to calm down and isn’t really a nuisance. She also isn’t a flight risk seeing as how she has never attempted to jump our 4-½ ft fence. Daisy-girl would do very well in a home with children and other dogs (possibly even cats). She does need exercise and would flourish in a home that could provide that (she makes an excellent hiking partner).

Meet Sir Gilbert Armstrong, a 6-year-old, Neapolitan Mastiff. Gilbert has shot his way up to the top of the all-time favorite dog list overnight. What’s not to like about him? He’s huge, he’s extremely lovable (to people and pets), and he has the most unique aesthetic of any dog we’ve had. I rescued this fawn-colored fellow from the Bakersfield pound where he was essentially rotting. They did a great job treating his wounds until we could pick him up. At time of rescue, he was about 25 lbs. underweight and his muscles had atrophied a bit. He has been eating like a pig ever since and his balance and stamina have greatly improved. He loves going for off-leash walks around town or up here in the mountains. Unlike most Neos, he is not overly protective and seems perfectly content with whatever his surroundings may be. He is a huge hit where ever we go, and could make your family famous as well. If you are interested in adopting Sir Gilbert Armstrong, please contact Zach at 661-972-3852 or email zach@marleysmutts.com.

This wonderful whippersnapper is Zeek and he is an 8-month-old Cattle Dog mix. Zeek was found stray in Hart Flat and, unfortunately, nobody has come forward to claim him. His is an incredibly happy dog with a contagious zeal for life–in other words, he’s just a happy-go-lucky young dog that loves life. Zeek does well with people and with other dogs and is progressing well at his foster home. He is learning to be housetrained, walk on a leash, and all of the skills that a dog needs to have. Zeek has a gorgeous, smooth coat and a unique tri-color pattern that will make him a hit at the dog park. Zeek doesn’t herd and is essentially adaptable to any scenario: family with kids, with or without dogs, or a single parent. Zeke was neutered this week and is completely vaccinated.
If you are interested in adopting Zeek, please contact Zach at 661-972-3852 or email zach@marleysmutts.com.

This here lovely lady is Judy, and she is some sort of an American foxhound. Judy has a great story that begins with her running down the 14 freeway. Our good friend Elaine spotted her and was able to coax her into her car. Elaine passed her off to Animal Control who discovered that she was chipped! Letters were sent and phone calls were made, but nobody responded to the bulletin about a found hound dog. So, after three weeks of disappointment, waiting for her owners to come, we were finally able to pick her up. As I was checking her out at the pound, I got a call informing me that our good friend and all-around saintly human being, Judy Hare, had passed away after a valiant battle with cancer. It was a no brainer: we had to name our new girl Judy. We guess-ti-mate her to be between 2 and 3 years-old—she is also spayed, vaccinated and micro chipped.
If you are interested in adopting a terrific dog that loves fetch, stays by your side, is house-trained and whom you will fall madly in love with, then please contact Zach at 661-972-3852 or email zach@marleysmutts.com.

This little doll is Chloe and we rescued her from the Bakersfield Pound. Truthfully, we rescued her from in front of the pound from a gentleman who was trying to drop her off there. The pound is a dangerous place for puppies due to their vulnerability to disease and she would have had no chance of survival considering she is a lab/pit mix.
Chloe is about nine weeks old now and has really adapted well to our routine up here at the rescue. A couple of days after bringing her in, we added Sonar, a Rot pup that had his ears cut off with razor blades. Sonar was so scared and so hesitant of people but after Chloe got a hold of him, he has morphed into a normal dog. She is such a pleasant spirit with an infectious joy about her, that it can’t help but put a smile on your face. Chloe has begun her vaccination routine and is a healthy, vibrant little character, full of love to give. If you are interested in adopting our charismatic Chloe, please contact Zach at 661-972-3852 or email zach@marleysmutts.com.

I wanted to let you know how well Harmony (formerly Bernadette) is doing in her new home. Though she continues to work through some health issues, she has settled in amazingly well. She is putting on much needed weight. Today she weighed in at 96 pounds. The vet says only ten more to go.
Harmony is learning our way of life, and we are piecing together parts of her story through behavioral clues. She seems to think that we need to wear slippers at all times. She is very insistent when she brings them to us each time we return home. It didn’t take her long to start enjoying the cushy life with a soft bed indoors and near constant ear scratches. Trips to the dog park don’t hurt either.
My eleven-year-old daughter’s soccer team has claimed Harmony as their mascot. Alas, many of them forget about soccer in favor of lavishing affection on Harmony. She has what we call her “Celebrity Complex.” She is a star everywhere she goes. In fact, she almost seems disappointed when people pass by without fawning over her. Fortunately that doesn’t happen too often.
Harmony has been a wonderful addition to our family. We can’t thank you enough for bringing her into our lives.
Keep up the good work!
Andrea

Hello Zach and all the nice people that we met during our adoption process for Gunner (who has been renamed Zach after his benefactor, Zach Scow).
We didn’t care for the name Gunner which is Scandinavian for warrior…and he’s not a warrior, he’s a big lover!! While we were in the adoption process, we accidentally kept calling him Zack so it stuck..and seemed right. He answered to Zack pretty quick because he must have heard it a lot. He answers to a couple of silly names too, like Gunnyzach, Wackyzach, Zachamundo, Zachymonkey, and Zigzach. When he gets really goofy we call it a Zackattack (of course), or spazazach.
Zachy is a perfect dog. He pretty much settled in in day one… as though he knew that he was where he needed to be. We all bonded immediately. He understands English well and learns really fast. He’s been on several outings with us and out to lunch with us a couple times. He rides well in the car and walks nicely on leash, but we need to work on recall. He was recogniced twice when we were out to lunch at Kohnen’s, and got lots of compliments on his good looks and nice manners. He is often the center of attention, and loves to put on a show and make us laugh.
Zachyboy has his own room (the spa room off the patio) with an Igloo in it for winter…we call this the Zachshack. He also has a bed in the living room, and a bed on the patio that will be in shade or sun depending on the time of year. Right now he is enjoying a sunbath. He might be getting just a little spoiled..ha ha.
So, thank you for choosing us to become Zach’s family. We love him and he loves us!! You are welcome to come visit him, just give us a call. We pray you have a blessed 2012.
See ya soon.
Love,
Don, A.J., and Zachman O’Malley
