Drain-Pipe Puppies

(Note:  One puppy has been adopted; three remain)

This story, you will flat-out not believe.  It is a heart-wrenching tale of survival and loss that includes an insight into the duality of human nature-the wonderful and horrific.

These four 8 week old, Shep/Lab pups (2 boys/2 girls) were found stuck in a sewer drain.  No telling how they got there, but it hasn’t rained in some time and I don’t think they would have placed themselves there.  A 5th puppy managed to crawl out of the drainage hole, but was hit by a car and killed.  This run-off drain was small and tight, so the rescue effort was not easy, but a heroic couple was committed to doing so.

The woman puppy-saver, with her smaller hands and wrists, was able to squeeze her hand through the gap and get a hold of one of the puppies.  The puppy bit her (natural reaction to fear), but she managed to hoist her up to the street.  They grabbed the other three without incident and contacted us.  The puppies are scared and very cautious, but they, I’m sure, they will embrace their new freedom and give trust to humans in no time.

They are in good health, we have vaccinated them, and for the time being, they are very content curling up into one big puppy ball with one another.  These puppies need this community’s support in order to transition them from their current state to lovely, happy adopted doggies.  They will need help with medical costs and even fostering.  Donations can be made at the Tehachapi Vet Hospital or at Marleysmutts.com.

If you are interested in helping or adopting one of these adorable, abused pups, please contact Zach at 661-972-3852 or 661-821-1327.

A special Facebook page has been set up to collect donations for these guys.  Please help spread the word.
